Momentous Institute is one of the charitable beneficiaries of the inaugural ClubCorp Classic. In addition to raising funds to support Momentous Institute’s goal of changing the odds for all children to build healthy and equitable communities, the ClubCorp Classic also invited students from the Momentous School to serve as junior reporters for the event.
Here are their stories:
A Conversation about Values with David Pillsbury
by Noemi Rojas, 5th grade student at Momentous School, 2022 Junior Reporter
Character. Integrity. Honesty. These are the personal values of David Pillsbury, CEO of ClubCorp.
Caring. Concerned. Considerate. These are the words I would use to describe him.
On April 22, another Momentous School student and I went to Las Colinas Country Club in Irving to interview Mr. Pillsbury. When we first walked into the meeting room, I thought Pillsbury looked like a stern businessman. When we started interviewing him, my impression changed.
When I asked why he wanted to be CEO of ClubCorp, he told me he wanted to use his platform to make a difference in the world and help organizations. That’s when I knew he was caring.
As we talked, he told me ClubCorp had to lay off about 10,000 people during the pandemic and he felt concerned about them. So, it was arranged that ClubCorp gave food to these people twice a week. This led me to think David Pillsbury was concerned.
One last thing he told me was that some of the money raised from the ClubCorp Classic golf tournament is going to be contributed to First Tee and Momentous Institute. This made me think he is considerate.
As we left the meeting room, I thought about how, deep down, we all have values. Sometimes it’s noticeable, and sometimes it’s not, but the most important thing is that we know them and use them for good.
